US Appeals Court Rules Social Media Firms Cannot Censor Based On Political Viewpoint

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a Texas law relating to barring big social media companies like Twitter from banning users for political viewpoints has been upheld. Meaning that websites like Twitter, Google, and Facebook cannot ban users based on their political beliefs, with Texas arguing that social media companies are the new public square and thus have 1st Amendment protections.

This case is most likely going to be heard by the Supreme Court, and from there it could possibly result in allowing all political viewpoints to exist on these platforms, which could result in a boom of recruitment for those deemed “far right extremists” by these platforms. We’ll continue to keep an eye on this case as developments continue.
